Afghanistan
Afghanistan today is a disastrous state, it has a poor economy, people
are dying of war and hunger. Afghanistan is not ruled by a government or a
group of people. The majority of Afghanistan cities are under Taliban rule.
The exact population is not know but it is estimated to be around 21- 26
million people.
There are four major ethnic groups in Afghanistan, they are,
Pashtoons, Tajiks, Hazarus, and Uzbeks. The languages of Afghanistan are
Pashto and Dari. The majority of people living in Afghanistan belong to
The Islamic faith, however, there are still small groups Sikhs, Hindus, and
even some Jewish.
The current political situation in Afghanistan is very unstable. The
two main groups vying for control of the country are the United Front and
the Taliban militia, which controls all the major cities in the country. The
former king, Mohammad Zahir, currently living in Italy, is also active in
presenting his Grand Assembly peace plan.
. The government of Afghanistan is waging a war upon women. Since
the Taliban took power in 1996, women have had to wear burqua and have
been beaten and stoned in public for not having the proper attire, even if this
means simply not having the mesh covering in front of their eyes. One
woman was beaten to death by an angry mob of Fundamentalists for
accidentally exposing her arm while she was driving. Another was stoned to
death for trying to leave the country with a man that was not a relative.
Women are not allowed to work or even go out in public without a male
relative; professional women such as professors, translators, doctors,
lawyers, artists and writers have been forced from their jobs and stuffed into
their homes, so that depression is becoming so widespread that it has
reached emergency levels.
