A Critique of Friends in American Culture

it all the time. I sit there and I watch dozens of people walk by who are dressed almost identically. They have the same hairstyle, and use the same lingo. But what made them buy that outfit, and why do they choose that particular hairstyle? Why do they talk like that?
I saw a girl once who looked as though she had come straight off the set of “Friends”. She was like an exact replica of pretty, preppy Rachel Greene, in a forest green sweater with a short black skirt. Her hair was even cut and styled just like the actresses’ was at the time. But it wasn’t just Rachel who inspired millions of girls to dress themselves in tight-fitting black dresses and sweaters. Guys were doing it too. I also saw a man walking around with a leather jacket that looked almost identical to the one that the character Joey is often seen wearing on the show. They didn’t look as good as the actors which they aspired to dress like. It isn’t uncommon for TV shows to hire good-looking cast members; audiences become even more inclined to copy the wears and hairs of their favorite television celebrity. It seemed like at the mall that day, all I saw was the cast of “Friends”. It was like being in the Twilight Zone. But I wasn’t; it was real-life, and I just realize!
