What is absolutism? Absolutism is a system of government in which the ruler has total control. The government of King Louis XIV of France is an example of absolutism. While King Louis thought he was being a good ruler to his people he brought suffering to them by using the power of absolutism.
Many rulers following absolutism including King Louis XIV had characteristics that they all followed. Expanding the empire was something all rulers tried to do, it only made them more powerful. Engaging wars is also something many rulers did to show how much power they had. Rulers also taxed their people so they can have extravagance.

King Louis XIV did a lot of things following the characteristics of an absolute government. King Louis invaded the Spanish Netherlands and from that he gained twelve towns. Through engaging wars against weaker countries he pushed those weaker countries to all join together and equal the strength of France. King Louis built the Palace of Versailles by taxing his people.
Through King Louis’ Reign he left both positive and negative effects in his empire. Through Louis’ wars his peoples economy was slowing down and becoming poor, so that left his people to not want him anymore. Through his years an emperor he left a positive background and a legacy of the French Empire. King Louis was known as the most powerful ruler of his time.
King Louis XIV brought tormenting to his people by utilizing the authority of absolutism....
