Deception of Ads

While going through a magazine called Maxim, I found three advertisements that

caught my eye. Maxim is a magazine for men so a lot of the ads had to do with women.

They mostly were advertising tools, clothes and colognes. What women have to do with

these items I have no idea. We have all heard that sex sells, but I think some of these ads

are taking it a step too far.

My first ad that I found is for Jensen stereos. The reason for the ad is to help sell

the product. What caught my eye was the color of the ad; it is a bright yellow color just

like you would see at a stoplight, maybe to tell the reader to slow down and read this ad.

The ad promises a desire to men by telling them that if you have this stereo in your

Vehicle you will find the women who will want you. The ad has a woman lying on

here side completely naked. That is not the end of here role. She is painted with a map

of Northern California, so this makes you want to look for your town or city. This is one

of the first things I did when I saw the map on here body. It was very interesting to find

Chico on her forearm. I also looked for my hometown and found that on her butt. This

is something that really draws your attention to the ad.

The only writing that you see is the logo for the ad, which states “ Feel the raw

naked power of the road”. This is what makes me think of sex and bodies. This is also

where I got the idea that is was a promising ad. The lettering of these words are white so

they really stand out against the yellow of the rest of the ad.

The product in the ad is in a black space at the very bottom of the ad. It is really

hard to see the product which there are trying to sell. The ad doesn’t say anything about

the product like you would think. At the bottom in the smallest text it says “For the bare
