"September, 1918 by the modernist poet Amy Lowell was very enlightening poem. It gave a sense of hope and imagination. It was how the writer wanted to see the world in the year of 1918, during World War I. The poet was speaking of the war between the United States adn Germany, one of the first wars of the country that she was exposed to. Lowell was painting a picture of how the world should have been compared to the way it really was. The first stanza paints a picture of a perfect day. She talks about the scenery, which was a colorful sight with trees and leaves. The day she was describing was a blue, sunny afternoon. The sounds of families and childre and laughing and enjoying the wonderful afternoon had filled the air. Although Lowell was imagining a perfect day, that was not how the world was at that moment. She was longing to see a day like in the first stanza where there was no war going on. The second stanza shows a certain hope because she knowws the world was at a violent state, but she still dreamed about the world being a better place. But, people has to see things from different perspectives to in what they wish for. In the second stanza she mentions the was and hopes that it didn't exist; this was the first she mentions. It's like she's giving herself a sense of powere to control the world in her own hands. She uses "I" s lot. So, she's taking responsibility of this entire allusion of being in a world without war. The last two lines of the second stanza wrap up the whole poem. Shes's saying she has to balance herself for what the world is going through. She has to allow heself to deal with the crisis. World War I did cease On November 11, 1918, four years later than when she started to write this poem. "September, 1918" was a good poem to me by Amy Lowell.
